• The regional market is growing fast. Fortune Business Insights sizes the Middle East & Africa intelligent document processing market at USD 0.75 billion in 2025, rising to USD 1.02 billion in 2026. The global market is forecast to grow from USD 14.16 billion (2026) to USD 91.02 billion by 2034, a 26.2% CAGR.
• E-invoicing deadlines are close. The UAE's voluntary e-invoicing phase opened on 1 July 2026. Businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more must appoint an Accredited Service Provider by 30 October 2026 and go live on 1 January 2027. Everyone else must appoint one by 31 March 2027 and go live on 1 July 2027. Any company overhauling its finance data flows now should automate its other documents at the same time.

What AI document processing actually does

OCR alone turns an image into text. IDP goes further. It knows that this number is the Emirates ID number, that date is the licence expiry, and the Arabic name on page one should match the English name on page two. A typical pipeline has five stages:

1. Capture: email inbox, WhatsApp, a web upload form, a scanner or a mobile camera.
2. Classify: is this a trade licence, a passport, a tax invoice or a bill of lading?
3. Extract: read the fields in Arabic and English, including tables and stamps.
4. Validate: check formats (15-digit Emirates ID starting 784, TRN format, expiry in the future), cross-check totals and VAT at 5%, and flag low-confidence fields for a person to review.

Arabic OCR: what accuracy to really expect

Arabic is harder than English for machines. Letters change shape by position, dots separate similar characters, and UAE paperwork often mixes right-to-left Arabic with left-to-right English numbers on the same line. What we see in practice:

Can AI read Arabic documents accurately?

Yes, for printed and digitally generated documents, as long as you use an engine with real Arabic support, such as Azure Document Intelligence, Google Document AI or a modern vision LLM. Handwritten Arabic and poor phone photos still need a human review step for low-confidence fields.
