The UAE rules that quietly void your uniform order
1. You cannot bill staff for PPE
Under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, Article 13, the employer must supply personal protective equipment and protective clothing free of charge. Deducting uniform or PPE cost from salary is a violation, with penalties running from AED 5,000 up to AED 1,000,000 depending on the breach. If your procurement plan includes a staff deduction, redo the plan.
2. The midday break rewrites your outdoor uniform spec
The UAE midday work ban runs 15 June to 15 September, prohibiting outdoor work between 12:30 and 15:00, weekends and public holidays included. The fine is AED 5,000 per worker, capped at AED 50,000 per establishment. Employers must also provide shaded cool zones, drinking water and electrolytes. Only narrow exemptions apply — continuous concrete pouring, asphalt laying and similar.

3. Dubai Food Code governs every F&B uniform
Dubai Municipality's Food Code requires food handlers to wear clean uniforms with effective hair restraints and, where applicable, gloves. Jewellery and watches are not permitted on the line. Non-compliance escalates from warning to fine to closure. Build the spec around it: enough sets per person for daily changes, aprons that actually survive commercial laundering, and headwear that passes inspection.
4. Security uniforms are specified by SIRA, not by you
SIRA sets guard uniform requirements — typically a light blue or white shirt with navy trousers, or approved company colours, with defined badge placement. Critically, the uniform must never be mistakable for police or military dress. Approve the design with SIRA before production, not after.
Importing blanks: customs, ECAS and labelling
If you are sourcing garments directly rather than buying locally, budget 5% customs duty on CIF value plus 5% VAT.
